What is User Interface?

A user interface, better known as UI or just an “interface”, is how a person controls a hardware device or software application. Simply put, a user interface (UI) is anything a user interacts with to use a digital product or service. This is inclusive of everything, right from touchscreens and screens, to keyboards, lights, and even sounds. A good user interface offers a “user-friendly” experience so that the user can interact with the hardware or software intuitively and naturally. The key factors in a good UI comprise familiarity and consistency. A user interface needs to be consistent across all parts of the application, right from navigation to color to terminology, better known as internal consistency. Besides, a user interface should be consistent within its context, like the operating system or other applications in its group or family. This is known as external consistency.
